Steplore is a Chrome browser extension and web application developed by Serapion GmbH. This Privacy Policy explains how Steplore collects, uses, stores, and protects data when you use the product — whether you're creating a guide or chatbot, or asking one a question as an end user.

By installing or using Steplore, you agree to the practices described below.

1. Information We Collect

1.1 Guide and Video Recording

During an active recording session initiated by the user, Steplore may collect:

• Screenshots of your current tab
• Elements of the webpage you interact with
• Text, UI components, or visual content displayed during the recording
• Clicks, actions, and navigation
• Timing and sequence of steps
• Cursor interactions (if included in the recording)

Steplore does not collect any recording information outside of an active recording session initiated by the user.

1.2 Chatbot Knowledge — Application Scanning

When an administrator triggers a scan of an application to build a chatbot's knowledge base, Steplore uses that administrator's own authenticated session to explore the application and collects:

• Interactive elements, page structure, and navigation paths
• Screenshots of the scanned pages

This scan does not collect personal data or transactional data entered by the target application's own end users — it captures the application's interface, not the data inside it.

1.3 Chatbot Knowledge — Uploaded Documents and Linked Guides

Administrators may add documents or existing guides as additional chatbot knowledge sources. The content of these files and guides is processed and stored to power chatbot answers.

1.4 Chatbot Conversations

When an end user asks a Steplore-powered chatbot a question, Steplore collects the question and the generated response, and may retain conversation history to maintain context for follow-up questions.

1.5 Voice Input, Where Enabled

If an administrator enables voice for a chatbot, Steplore collects audio recorded when a user taps to speak, in order to transcribe it to text and generate a spoken response. Audio is only captured after the user actively starts a voice input.

1.6 Automatically Collected Technical Data

• Extension version
• Performance and diagnostic data

2. How We Use the Information

Collected data is used exclusively for the following purposes:

• To generate step-by-step guides
• To create screenshots, descriptions, and structured documentation
• To produce AI-generated walkthrough videos and guide translations
• To build and operate AI chatbots, including retrieving relevant knowledge and generating answers
• To power in-app visual guidance
• To transcribe voice input and generate spoken responses, where voice is enabled
• To improve processing accuracy and product quality
• To maintain reliable extension and application performance

We do not use collected data for advertising, profiling, or resale.

3. Data Sharing and Third Parties

• Steplore does not sell or share your data with third-party advertisers.
• Your data may be processed by trusted sub-processors required to provide the service — for example, cloud hosting, AI language model processing, vector database storage, and, where voice features are enabled, speech-to-text and text-to-speech processing.
• All sub-processors follow GDPR-level security standards.

No data is transferred for purposes unrelated to the core functionality of Steplore.

4. Data Storage and Security

Your data is encrypted in transit and at rest when stored in the Steplore backend.

We implement:

• Secure HTTPS endpoints
• Role-based access controls
• Limited data retention policies
• Isolated environments for processing recordings, application scans, and conversations

You may delete your recordings, guides, chatbots, uploaded documents, and conversation history at any time. Deletion is permanent.

5. User Rights

Depending on your region (such as GDPR or CCPA), you may have the right to:

• Access your data
• Request correction or deletion
• Restrict or withdraw consent
• Export your data

6. Children's Privacy

Steplore is not intended for children under the age of 16. We do not knowingly collect data from minors.

7. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy to reflect product improvements or legal requirements. Updates will be posted in the Chrome Web Store listing or on our official website.
